Over $10,000 raised in a day on Twitter

Here’s a perfect example of using social media to build trust and leverage relationships.

David Armano raises more than $10,000 on Twitter for a family in need:

  1. David’s plea - He preps his followers by telling them that he’s “going to need a BIG favour” from them. A short while later, he tweets a link to his blog post and asks his followers to retweet the message. It turns out that he’s helping out Daniela, an abused woman and her 3 kids who had been recently displaced.
  2. The amazing series of events that transpired - Money starts pouring in as David’s distress call quickly reaches his immediate followers and their networks. Within the first 2 hours, over $4,000 is raised. David keeps everyone updated on Twitter and expresses how astounded he is over the reaction from the community. By the end of Day 2, his network raises over $15,000.
  3. Lessons we can all learn from this experience - read here and here.
  4. The “thank you” message - David’s emotional video response thanking the community for their gracious efforts.

If there’s any doubt as to how powerful social media can be, I think David has just silenced all the critics. The message is clear - if it can work wonders at this scale, imagine what it could do for your brand.
